JUST A FEW MORE HOURS AND THE FIFTH EDITION OF THE ALTA VIA STAGE RACE WILL KICK OFF

It will be a 500-km-long battle in the saddle. One hundred competitors from eight countries are ready to ride across the Liguria region once again, along the ridge trail Alta Via dei Monti Liguri. And for this edition, in good company with the runners of the I-Lavet.

It is almost go! time at the fifth edition of the Alta Via Stage Race, the endurance mountain-bike stage race scheduled to take place between the 18th and the 25th June along the ridge trail Alta Via dei Monti Liguri. The start will be at 9:30 on Saturday 18th, in Bolano.

At the starting line there will be one hundred athletes from eight countries from all over Europe and some welcome comebacks.

Switzerland’s Pascal Guntersperger (Promotion –Tools Team), third in the overall at the last edition will be back to do even better this year, as much as Juan Josè Adell Sabate (Club Ciclista Catalunya Sud Team) from Spain, fifth in 2015. To make even more exciting the fight for the top positions in the Hero Format race, from Turin, also Flavio Coluccio, last year’s winner of the Couples category together with Emiliano Amalberti and Eros Bessone, winner of the Weekend race format, both of the Brike Bike Team will be there. Many other racers will take part to the stage race; among them two loyal AVSR enthusiasts and riders with a proper knowledge of these places, the Ligurian Alessandro Mantovani and Andrea Segreti, to whom the organizers wish good luck for this new adventure.

The race course of this 2016 edition is going to have it all and during these last hours has even undergone a few more changes. At this link you will be able to find the latest tracks and elevation profiles.

Not only the 500km-long race course across the Ligurian hinterland is going to be incredibly panoramic and scenic, but it will offer a never-ending mix of forest roads, single-tracks, mule tracks, steep slopes to tackle with some portage (even if reduced compared to the past editions) and some links over asphalt. It is going to be cracking good fun!

This year an event of trail running, the I-Lavet, will be twinned with the bike race. They will take place side by side, sharing a lot of the race course and, most of all, the locations of the eight overnight stops.

Along their adventure the athletes will be hosted in Bolano, Sesta Godano, Rezzoaglio, Livellato, Sassello, in Pian dei Corsi and Pian dell’Arma mountain refuges, in Pigna and Airole, with a massive effort of the Association Ospitalità Alta Via and of the many volunteers such as those of CAI, FIE, VAB, Civil Protection, Alpinos, Pro Loco and other local associations.

Alta Via Stage Race cannot wait to kick off for this great new adventure across Liguria
